We are the membership organisation that represents universities that deliver social work education and research across the four nations of the UK.
JUSWA can trace its history back over 100 years from the inception of the Joint University Council for the Applied Social Sciences in 1918 which was set up to advise government on the emerging profession of social work. In 2023 we formed our new Charitable Incorporated Organisation JUSWA and continue to shape the new charity to respond to contemporary challenges.
We continue to represent the sector on many advisory committees including with our regulatory bodies across the four nations and key government departments. We also run the UK annual social work education and research conference and this year it is hosted n partnership with the University of Central Lancashire: www.uclan.ac.uk/events/listing/juswac
