About JUSWA
The Joint Universities Social Work Association (Charity number: 1204861) brings together higher education institutions involved in advancing social work education and research in the United Kingdom.
As the Learned Society for Social Work in the UK, it aims to promote and develop social work education, research, policy and practice. Such activities are advanced through objective research and rigorous factual analysis to provide full, accurate and relevant information and promoted in an impartial, objective, balanced, and independent manner to inform and improve the quality of public debate.
JUSWA traces its roots from the Joint University Council for the Applied Social Sciences set up in 1918 to advise government on the then emerging profession of social work. Social work is now a well-established academic discipline, with practitioners working in a number settings across the UK, underpinned by regulatory frameworks.
